Morte d’ Arthur:

v            Morte d’ Arthur:

* It is a compilation of the French Arthurian romances to create a prose romance of great length and details, without any unity.

* It is a vast work consisting of 21 books.

* In spite of the diversity of the legends the central theme is divided into two sections.

a)                                     First section deals with the reign of king Arthur, his triumph, the unfaithfulness of his queen Guenever, her passion for Launcelot,Launcelot’s punishment and Arthur’s death.

b)                                     The second section deals with quest of Holy Grail by Launcelot, but he fails because of his guilty and finally Sir Galahad finds it in a vision. The book end with a religious note. Guenever becomes a nun and Launcelot a hermit.

* “It is a skillful blend of dialogue and narrative and is full of colour and life while the style has a transparent clarity and a poetic sensibility which make Malory our first great individual prose stylist”-(Albert)
